I started my career as a junior consultant fresh out of university. Over the next 15 years I built a practice partnering Life Sciences businesses across Europe through executive search, project RPO, contractor provision, always through the lens of people and what makes organisations grow. I became Director of Global Workforce Solutions. But the most valuable thing I built in those 15 years was not a client list. It was a deep understanding of what senior HR and medical leaders are actually wrestling with, behind closed doors.
At LEAP HR in Amsterdam I met Christian Rusche, then Head of HR International at Apellis. We got talking about something that had been bothering both of us. The gap. Three great days at a conference, real conversations, real energy, and then nothing for 12 months. No ongoing community. No place to continue the conversation. Just a LinkedIn connection you never properly use. Christian and I agreed: someone needed to fix this. I decided that someone would be me.
I started building locally in Switzerland. No big launch. No press release. Just carefully hand-picking the right people and inviting them in. It became clear very quickly that this was not just a Swiss problem. HR leaders across Europe had been waiting for exactly this. From a standing start I grew the community to 259 members. Every single person was chosen, not just accepted. That is still true today.
I asked two CMOs I trusted: Thomas Jaecklin and Florian Vogl. I asked whether something like HR Hub would work for Chief Medical Officers. Both said yes without hesitation. So we started small. Four people. Lora at Basel SBB. Beer, pizza, and a get-to-know-each-other. That evening Nils Eckhart, Jens Hasskarl and Thomas Jaecklin showed up and something clicked. A WhatsApp group followed. Florian stepped up to co-host. Each member began introducing CMOs from their own networks. That is still how it grows today, through trust, not advertising.
